MOUNT KINABALU, WHITE WATER RAFTING &  VIA FERRATA
PHYSICAL GRADING – 4/5 (Strenuous)

Mount Kinabalu is the highest mountain in South-east Asia and located in Sabah, East Malaysia.

In this expedition, you will conquer the Timpohon trail, a 8.5km (1-way) trek up to the Low’s Peak summit 4095.2m.  You will also get the chance to walk on the via ferrata (Italian word for “iron way or road”) which allows access to scenic section of the mountain.

Optional: The second activity is white-water rafting on the grade 3-4 Padas river o(r grade1-2 Kiulu)  that is located at the southeastern part of Sabah.  You will also have the chance to experience and get close to the Murut tribes as you board the North Borneo Railway Train.  Getting to the start point itself is an adventure as we bring you on a 10km “trolley ride” on the railway track, using improvised wooden planks on iron wheels.

Optional:  if doing via ferrata activity, after enjoying the sunrise, descend down to Sayat-Sayat granite slab to commence the via ferrata Low’s Peak Circuit (est. 5-6hrs).

ITINERARY
Day1 – Arrive to Kota Kinabalu airport. Meet your guide, transfer to KK town/ or park HQ (depending on flight arrival) for check-in into hotel/hostel. Free and easy at own leisure.

Day2 – After breakfast at hotel, land transfer Mount Kinabalu Park HQ (1500m), a UNESCO World Heritage site. After registration, meet up with your mountain guide and transfer to Timpohon Gate to begin your trek up the mountain. The destination for today is Pendant Hut at 3300m (6km uphill climb). Along the way, do observe the varieties of flora such as the pitcher plants, rhododendrons and oak trees We will take a lunch break at the 4km pavilion (packed lunch will be provided). The whole journey will take around 5-7hrs.  If doing the via ferrata activity, in the evening you will attend a briefing by via ferrata trainer, with mock-up familiarization. Day3 – Early breakfast at 2am, begin summit of Low’s Peak 4095.2m, highest point in South East Asia (2.6km uphill climb). Return to Laban Rata to have a rest, before commencing your descend to Timpohon Gate (6km downhill). Meet our representative and lunch at a restaurant. * Transfer back to KK town to check-in into hotel

Optional: if doing via ferrata activity, after enjoying the sunrise, descend down to Sayat-Sayat granite slab to commence the via ferrata Low’s Peak Circuit (est. 5-6hrs). Return to Pendant Hut (if via ferrata) for late lunch & rest after a long & tiring morning.

Day4 – Pickup from hotel to Padas white-water rafting (grade 3-4). Experience the unique 10km trolley ride on the North Borneo Railway to get to the rafting start point. Upon arrival, light refreshment will be served. Essential white water rafting equipment and safety briefing will be conducted by our professional river guide. Experience the thrilling yet scenic white-water rafting with 9 rapids, over 21km. It will take around 2 hour to complete. At end point, take the last train to Beaufort town for your transport back to KK town.
