Day02: Chengdu / KangDing (2600m) (drive 7-8hr)
Departure from Chengdu; via Ya’an and through the Erlang Mountain Tunnel we enter the Tibetan Prefecture Garze (Ganzi Zhou), are passing the big cities Luding and Kangding.  We will have lunch in LuDing.  Another few hours of driving will bring us to the first high pass – Zheduo Pass (4298m).  we will arrive KangDing in the late afternoon. (hotel)

Day03: KangDing / XinDuQiao / YaJiang / LiTang (4000m) (drive 7-8hr)
From KangDing, another 3hrs of driving take us to XinDuQiao (3434m), known to be very popular with photographers especially during the autumn period when the leaves of the poplar trees change colour.  The road from XinDuQiao to Yajiang and onwatds to LiTang goes straight uphill onto the Jianziwan Pass (4650m). The county town of LiTang lies at an altitude of about 4000m and therefore belongs to one of the highest towns in the world.  After late lunch, we visit the big Lamasery Ganden Thubchen Choekhorling Monastery. This monastery was founded by the third Dalai Lama Sonam Gyatso in the 16th century.  (hotel)

Day04: LiTang / ZhangNa (Zhamla) (3650m) / HuPi Plain (3890m) (drive 3hr, trek 5-6hrs)
(We have to change our transport to local mini-vans)
Early in the morning our travel continues on a very bumpy gravel road. We drive over a high pass from where we can get a first and fascinating glimpse of Mount Genyen, if the sight is clear. It will take about four hours for this 80km section before we arrive in the township ZhangNa (Zhamla). Here we meet our horse crew, get our luggage packed and start with our march. We hike along the Redi Creek for about two hours before we reach Naiganduo Village. Another two hours from there takes the hike upstream to the Hupi Plain – a wide pasture settled in the bend of the river. Here we will put up our camp – with Mt. Genyen majestically resting in the background. (camping)

Day05: HuPi Plain / LengGu Monastery (Rangu Gompa) 4090m / Base Camp 4150m (trek 4-5hr)
We follow the river that leads straight into Mt Genyen. Not far behind HuPi Plain the mountain walls come closer and form a deep valley. Behind the canyon we already spot the remote LengGu Monastery on the next widening directly beneath Mt. Genyen. Here we rest for lunch. Our trek continues up the valley and along big granite formations. We camp at a marvelous lake at the foot of an impressive 5965m peak.  (camping)

Day06: Base Camp / Ice Lake (4200m) / HuPi Plains (trek 8-9hr) * recommended to add 1 more day here
Today is the toughest day for Mt Genyen trek.  We hike generally towards west direction.  After crossing the river, it is upslope for about 2.5hrs and you will arrive at the Ice Lake.  There are opportunities for bouldering in the big granite formations in this area.  We will spend some time to relax and those keen can hike around this small lake.   After this is downhill back to our base camp. (camping)

Day07: HuPi Plains / LaMaYa / LiTang (trek 5-6hr, drive 4hr)
From the monastery we follow the route we came in – just with Genyen and all the other peaks in our back now. We leave ZhangNa behind and hike a little bit further on to the next Village: LaMaYa. Against late afternoon we get there and to our car and continue our travel back to LiTang on wheels. Here we stay in a hotel in town.  (camping)

Day08: LiTang / XinDuQiao (drive 4-5hr)
The same way back – we head towards east again! Before we reach XinDuQiao we have the great opportunity to watch the whole Minya Konka Mountain Range in the evening light from a high pass.  (hotel)

Day09: XinDuQiao / KangDing / start point of YaLa trek, ZhongGu 3250m (drive 5-6hr)
Long drive today.  About 18km from LiTang, we will arrive at the large prayers flags point for ZhaGa sacred mountains.  We will arrive at ZhongGu village (3200m) late in the evening.  After dinner, you may go for a relaxing hot-springs bath before your next trek. (guesthouse)

Day10: ZhongGu village / XinDianZi 3530m (trek 5-6hr)
Start your Yala trek today! We will hike along the river valley, passing through steppes with grass and wild flowers.  The trail is generally undulating, with gentle ascend.  Our campsite is located on a large grass patch. (camping)

Day11: XinDianZi / 4190m highpass / Sisters Lake / YaLa Lake (4070m) (trek 6-7hr)
You start trekking from your campsite in the early morning as we have a highpass to cross, Yala Pass at 4200m.  Vertical ascend from our campsite is about 600m.  It is not very tough, as we   Have planned for more than enough time to rest and ascend slowly.  After crossing the high-pass, we will see Sisters Lake and another short downhill trek will bring us to the campsite for the night beside the lake. (camping)

Day12: Yala Lake / DanBa Tibetan town (2300m) (trek 3-4hr, drive 2hr)
Today is an easy hike down to the end point of the whole trekking trip, near the coal mine.
Our vehicle will pick us up and drive to DanBa village and stay there for the night. (hotel)

Day13: DanBa / ChengDu (drive 8-9hr)
After spending 10days with snow-capped mountains, Tibetan people and culture, we will drive back to ChengDu. (hotel)

Day14: Depart ChengDu
