1. What can I expect from travel adventure trips organised by SHANGRILA ADVENTURE?
Our specially chosen and customised expeditions ensure that you will be able to experience a good mix of the usual tourist sights, and at the same time, walk along the more unconventional offbeat track in an organised and safe manner. In doing so, we hope to strike a balance between a sense of adventure and the usual comfort that most city-dwellers are used to. Because we have our own staffs to handle the actual ground operations, we run all the trips ourselves using our own drivers/guides/leaders. We do NOT simply buy & sell our trips from other local operators. As such, you can rest assure that we wholly own the trips and is able to customise them to suit individual travel needs.
2. How should I prepare for my trip?
There will be a briefing on the overall itinerary and expected fitness level required for the trip. During the briefing, we will also provide suggestion regarding your personal gear and advise on the various conditions such as weather, road conditions, accommodation standards, types of food available, as well as possible scenarios that might occur during the trip.
All you have to do is to keep yourself healthy and come with an open mind. After all, it is all about coming to discovering, experiencing and enjoying the process.
3. What kind of fitness level is required?
It largely depends on the types of trip that you are interested in. Most of our expeditions are suitable for everyone of average fitness level. Pre-trip briefings are also held to explain the itinerary and the general fitness level required, especially if it is more demanding.
Our Overland expeditions are usually the easiest as it involves sightseeing in the vehicles with short and easy hikes (if they are included in the itinerary).
The tougher ones are Trekking, Cycling and Climbing expeditions. Again, we have different physical grading in each category that ranges from moderately strenuous (3–4 days trek/gentle slopes) to strenuous (7-8 days/steeper gradients). Our cycling expeditions are also always supported with vehicles so that you can have a rest when the need arises.
4. Will there be time for souvenir shopping during the trip?
Unlike the usual local tour agencies, we do not include souvenir-shopping itineraries, as we do not believe in designating shopping spots to gain commission from the retailers. However, you can always purchase some souvenirs during the allocated personal time in the city.
5. Can we bring children along for such Adventure Travel trip?
Currently, only the Overland expedition is more suitable for children. However if your child has previous hiking experience, they can participate in some of our trekking trips.
We are currently in the process of designing suitable programmes for children. Do keep a lookout on our website for regular updates.
6. Does Shangrila Adventure customise trips or itineraries?
Yes, we do!
We will meet up with you to understand your travel needs before coming up with a suitable customised trip proposal.
7. What do I need to bring on the trip? Do we need any special gear?
We will provide a suggested personal gear list prior to each departure. Also, if you do have any queries, you can always send them to us and our staff will reply you within 48 hours.
8. What kind of weather should I expect?
We will hold a pre-departure briefing (group meet up or email). During the briefing, we will provide info on the general weather conditions of the area that you are going to, as well as the recommended clothing to bring.
A 50% deposit of the trip cost is required within 7 business days after booking for confirmation of trip. Please make the remaining balance payment within the next 7 business days. A confirmation email with receipt will be sent to you upon receiving your deposit.
10. Will I get refund if I cancel my trip at the last minute?
Our cancellation policy is stated in the Terms & Conditions on our website as well as at the end of the itinerary.
11. What are the VISA requirements?
As for China VISA, it depends on your nationality. Singapore passport holders do NOT require a China visa if you are travelling for up to 15 days. For other nationalities, we advise you to check with the China embassy or consular in your respective locations on your visa requirements.
All foreigners will require a Tibet entry permit to enter Tibet.
12. What is the evacuation procedure in the event of an emergency?
The evacuation procedure will vary slightly for different expeditions.
For overland expeditions, one of our vehicles will bring you to the nearest hospital in the next major location. For trekking/climbing expeditions, if the area is inaccessible for vehicles, we will use a combination of horses and people to bring you to the nearest road.
We have chartered vehicles around for all expeditions. In addition, we have satellite phones and are able to make emergency calls whenever necessary.
As with all outdoor adventure expeditions, there will always be certain risks involved. However we minimise the risks by going through all the itineraries ourselves and reviewing them at least once every 2 years.
